Promivac Reciprocating Piston Type Dry Vacuum Pumps are single stroke, air cooled, v-belt driven units, available in single & double stage configuration and can achieve Vacuum upto 29.6 Inches Hg (750 mm Hg). Fast evacuation, low oil consumption, low noise, faster heat dissipation, vibration free performance are some of the salient features of these pumps.
These pumps are quite reliable, maintenance free & versatile, proving a boon for applications wherein oil mist contamination is not at all acceptable.
The main components of the pump comprises of die casted aluminium alloy cylinder housing a reciprocating piston with rings, which is further connected to the drive shaft through a connecting rod. The cylinder head contains inlet and outlet valves. On the suction stroke of the piston, air is drawn into the cylinder from the system through the inlet manifold & inlet valves located in the cylinder head. On the upward stroke of the piston, the inlet valve closes and the discharge valve opens, permitting the air to be exhausted through the discharge manifold to atmosphere or a recovery system.
Efficient oil control is maintained with the help of direct connection between suction side of the system and the crankcase interior through a breather tube which creates pressure balance between both sides of the pistons and minimizes loss of lubricating oil through the piston rings. In addition, the crankcase vacuum tends to keep the oil dry by flashing off the condensable vapours that may have been sucked in from the system.

These pumps are very compact and are so simple in design that all minor repairs, in case of need, can be carried out easily without removing the main housing from its base plate and without disturbing the alignment.
In industrial models, or in vacuum pumps of higher capacities which are operated continuously for very long spells of time the oil gets heated either on account of friction or on account of heavy intake of hot mixture of gas and vapours, the performance of the pump drops. In order to keep it cool, a jacket is constructed around three sides of the pump housing, in which water is made to circulate for keeping the temperature of vacuum pump under control and retaining the performance at its best. In this model an inbuilt device, known as Gas Ballast is provided, which effectively checks to a large extent condensation of the water vapours which otherwise would not only had contaminated the oil, but had also diminished the performance of the pump.
The same can also be used as backing pump with Roots Type Vacuum Booster, Diffusion & Turbomolecular Pumps for making High Vacuum Systems.
